‘Tattoo’ wins Crystal Bear

Farhad Delaram has scooped the Crystal Bear from the 2019 Berlin International Film Festival for his direction of ‘Tattoo’.

The short film experienced its first international appearance at the Generation 14plus section of the 69th edition of the festival bagging Crystal Bear for the Best Short Film.

‘Tattoo’ competed with 62 short and feature films from around the world.

A brief synopsis of the flick reads, “To extend her driver’s license, she faces some problems due to having tattoos.’’

Berlinale official website comments on the film writing, “In spite of the calm general mood of the film, a high-contrast color scheme manages to generate a tense atmosphere over time, and the admirable use of square framing heightens the feeling that the female lead is under great pressure. When everything becomes dark at the end of the film, it is clear that the protagonist has to make a significant decision.”

Delaram, the director of the flick has so far made some 6 short and documentaries. His short flick ‘Away from Home’ attended last year's edition of House of Cinema Celebration in Iran.

Generation section of the festival is comprised of two sections, Generation Kplus and Generation 14plus. Both subcategories accept films with socio-political theme to give the young emerging young people a voice.

Founded in 1951, the Berlin International Film Festival is one of the world’s leading film events which is held in Germany and celebrated annually in February.

The 2019 Berlinale, which began ten days ago, will come to the conclusion tomorrow with the announcement of the winners of the main competition section.
